It's time for me to retire
:-(
My relationship with ALPACAS began in the fall of 2001, while searching for a retirement project which could be both fun AND profitable, and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  However, I'm not quite as agile or energetic as I was then, and there's always plenty or hard work to be done.  So I have decided to step aside and let someone else enjoy these wonderful animals that have become such a big part of my life.   Buttonwood Farm has been a rewarding and enjoyable investment, and I hope that others will continue to enjoy these new generations of alpacas that I have helped to raise, along with their moms.
If you are just now finding out about these beautiful creatures, please check the many on-line websites for more information, and especially look at the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association.   There are many folks who will help you get started, and I will be glad to answer any questions that I can.

While we always enjoy just observing them in the pastures, our goal is to produce quality alpacas with the finest  fleece in order to support the fast growing market in this country for this wonderfully soft fiber.  We raise them for their luxurious, soft fleece, which we shear once a year in the spring.  These natives of the Peruvian Andes Mountains are extremely hardy.  They have one offspring a year, called a cria, so we pay very close attention to our breedings.  Their beautiful, non allergy producing fiber is spun into yarn and then made into unbelievably fine, soft garments, such as sweaters, scarves, socks and gloves, blanket and even helmet liners for our troops.   It is important to attend as many seminars as possible, visit other farms, and talk to other breeders to continue to learn about these beautiful animals.
If you would like to learn more about these gentle animals, we suggest that you take advantage of our national breeders association where you will find a national calendar of events, as well as lots of information about ALPACAS as a financial investment  It is also helpful to attend as many seminars as possible.
